Since part of what we hope our blog does for you is give you display ideas…. I’d like to know YOUR ideas. Specifically, what were the best displays at your library this year? The ones that had to constantly be refilled? Please share your best displays of 2009 in the comments below! Thanks!

We had an ‘Art of Cooking’ display to support a cooking program this summer (that also fit in with the ‘Master the Art of Reading’ SRP)-the cookbooks just flew off the shelves.
A good conversation sparker was our ‘Banned Books Week’ display http://www.flickr.com/photos/41670370@N04/sets/72157622357273429/
I find short story displays to go fast, which is funny because they don’t really check out much normally. Also, non-book but I did a display of our nonfiction DVDs that I had to refill every other day.
Some of my most popular displays are the ones where I put out books of the same color. There isn’t a genre theme or anything else but people seem to love it. My last color was called “Down the Yellow Brick Road” and you can guess which color I used.
we’ve done that too! (colors)
Yield for a Yellow Book
Read a Red
Go for a Green
are all themes I’ve used before. It’s a fun way to get totally disparate books together on a display – and is very eye catching.
We did a display of first books in a series which was very popular.
We also tried a twist on the staff recommendation display by doing a patron recommendation display. We had to solicit recommendations for a good two months ahead of time, but it was worth it.
We had a fun ‘listmania’ display that included titles like 1001 (foods/wine/places/etc.) to (eat/drink/see/etc.) before you die.
Another popular display was ‘Yesterday’s Bestsellers.’ Patrons would see books by their favorite authors that they had missed before.
Take a look at webjunction.org, Library Services, Readers Advisory and the discussion for book displays. I’ve been collecting these here for a few years.
Our most recent display was created with a great list from fiction_l in hand, called Fairytales for Grownups! This display lends itself to a myriad of props. We used fairy wings, a homemade princess hat, tiny glass slippers and magic wands. Interesting display that has captured the imagination of our readers!

Next up for January will be Read It or Weed! a display of books that circulated well in their hey-day but have been languishing on our shelves ever since. They either get checked out or weeded. Our patrons will decide.
I love book display ideas. Please post your ideas and pictures at webjuntion.
Sorry, Place to post those displays should be webjunctin.org ~ should really watch my typing more!
I think my keyboard is having hiccups. I can’t believe I typed it wrong again.
